What are your thoughts.

Space … the final frontier.  So, as I am sure everyone knows, the National Aeronautical Space Administration (NASA) is located right here in H-town.  OK, well, technically in Clear Lake.  One rarely thinks of space exploration as an extension of government, but remember, one of President John F. Kennedy’s challenges promises to the nation was sending an American to the moon.
Well recently, with the call to put an astronaut on Mars by President George W. Bush, and with the founding of SpaceX by Elon Musk, the discussion about space exploration has re-emerged.  I would like you to address the following debate.   What extent should the government use tax-payer dollars to fund space exploration?  Should we leave space travel up to the private sector, or should the government invest more NASA mission.  Perhaps there is a healthy balance between the two?  What are your thoughts.
Below are some recent (and old) articles about this subject.  In addition, I have also linked a report that NASA contributed to about the benefits of space exploration, and a finding by the Congressional Budget Office suggesting how money could be spent elsewhere.
you must reference at least one article correctly in the body of the post (not simply cutting and pasting the URL after your post), respond respectfully to one-classmate, use college level grammar and sentence structure, and be at least 250 words long.

What did you learn about nonverbal and verbal messages by reading your classmate’s post?

In your responses to your classmates, address the following:
Share any advice or encouragement you have for your peers.
What did you learn about nonverbal and verbal messages by reading your classmate’s post?

Some  of the guidelines for effective verbal communication are to speak  clearly and concisely, avoid using too much technical Jargon, and  speaking with confidence. Best practices for nonverbal communication  include using hand gestures properly, making good eye contact, and  having good posture.
Some of the things I need to consider about the verbal delivery about  my speech is the careful use of Jargon. I have chosen a fairly  technical topic so I need to be careful when using jargon that I don’t  over use it, and that when I do choose to use a technical term, I  explain it enough to get my point across. Another thing I need to be  careful with is pacing. I need to make sure that I am timing the  delivery of each topic well enough that certain points are given enough  time compared to others. If I breeze over one point and take my time  another, my speech will feel off and some points may not come across  very well.
Examples of times I might pay close attention to my nonverbal  communication is both during the introduction and the conclusion. Since I  wont simply be relaying information, and instead will be trying to  summarize the main hitting points of the content of the speech, it will  be most important to use nonverbal communication to highlight those  parts of my speech.

Identify at least three guidelines for effective verbal communication.

In your responses to your classmates, address the following:
Share any advice or encouragement you have for your peers.

Identify at least three guidelines for effective verbal communication.
To communicate effectively you must speak  loud enough and clear. When thinking about speaking loudly is when you  really want to think about your audience and the volume your voice needs  to be to speak effectively. Having confidence while your speaking is  key and to do that you must understand what you’re talking about.
Identify at least three guidelines for effective nonverbal communication.
Nonverbal communication is important  because if you’re smiling like you just won a car during the eulogy then  you have failed in effective nonverbal communication. Your facial  expressions and posture are the most important guidelines in my opinion.  Making proper eye contact and hand gestures are important tools to keep  the audience engaged.
Discuss two areas you need to consider about the verbal delivery of your presentation.
Speaking clear without rambling is  something I will have to keep in mind. Having the confidence to follow  the outline I have made and the most important thing for me to consider  is fighting. If I am nervous then I tend to do that and I think my grade  during week four will also cause extra nervousness.
Give two examples of moments in your presentation when you might use nonverbals to increase the impact of your verbal message.
One example is to smile and show I like  the material and find it interesting. The second is to keep my posture  professional and sit up straight.

What did you learn about nonverbal and verbal messages by reading your classmate’s post?

In your responses to your classmates, address the following:
Share any advice or encouragement you have for your peers.
What did you learn about nonverbal and verbal messages by reading your classmate’s post?

Identify at least three guidelines for effective verbal communication.
It  is important to speak in terms that are easy for all listeners to  understand instead of using large vocabulary. This will ensure that what  you are saying is being comprehended correctly.
Thinking before you speak is very important because it can help you to avoid awkward pauses or using fill words such as “um”.
A  good tip is to paraphrase what others are saying to you back to them to  show that you are actively listening. It shows that you care about what  they are saying.
Identify at least three guidelines for effective nonverbal communication.
When  giving speeches it is important to make eye contact with your audience.  Make sure not to focus on just one person or to look down. It is also  important to make eye contact when you are having a one-on-one  conversation. It shows that you are listening and interested in the  conversation.
Using  signals to add meaning is a good non-verbal skill that also ties in  with verbal communication. Standing up tall, straight, and with your  shoulders back shows confidence.
Your facial expressions also can influence a speech as well as your  daily conversations. They can help get people’s attention as well as  relay your emotions regarding what you are speaking about.
Discuss two areas you need to consider about the verbal delivery of your presentation.
The  biggest area I need to consider about the verbal delivery of my  presentation is making sure that I know ahead of time exactly what I  would like to say. I need to do this to avoid using filler words because  I am terrible about saying “um” or “so” when going from one thought to  another.
I  also think I will need to slow myself down. I get incredibly nervous  when giving any kind of speech. In the past, I have started off at a  normal pace and then found myself talking extremely fast towards the end  to get through the speech.
Give two examples of moments in your presentation when you might use nonverbals to increase the impact of your verbal message.
As  I mentioned above, I am extremely nervous when giving speeches. I will  definitely want to make sure my posture makes me look confident when  giving my speech.
I  also think I will use my facial expressions to show how enthusiastic I  am about the topic that I am speaking on. If my face shows how much it  means to me, people may listen better or take more information in.
